City map gift

Who a city map is for

• Someone who moved away — their hometown, so it hangs in the new flat.
• A housewarming — the new neighbourhood with a home marker on their street.
• Graduates and expats — the city of their studies or a year abroad.
• Couples — the first city they lived in together.
• Fans of a city — New York, Paris, Tokyo or wherever they keep going back to.

How to make it personal

1. Frame the right part of the city. A whole city reads as a pattern of streets; a neighbourhood shows the streets they actually walk. Zoom until it feels like their place.
2. Add a marker. A home icon on their street, a heart on a favourite café, or several markers for the places they lived.
3. Write a line. The city name as the title and a short line under it: "Home sweet home", "Where it all began", a year, or the coordinates.
4. Match their home. Pick a style that suits their walls — warm Retro, dark Midnight or Copper, or a clean light style — and fine-tune the colours if you like.
