How to make a running route poster
- Export the GPX. From Strava: open the activity → ⋯ → Export GPX. From Garmin Connect: activity → ⚙ → Export to GPX. Most other apps (Coros, Suunto, Polar, Komoot) have the same option.
- Import it. Open the editor, go to Routes and drop in the file. GPX, GeoJSON and KML all work; the map zooms to fit the route.
- Style the line. Pick a thick line in a colour that stands out from the map — orange or red on light styles, yellow or white on dark ones.
- Add the numbers. Race name as the title, then distance, time and date as the subtitle: "Berlin Marathon · 42.2 km · 3:41:07".
No GPX file? Use the built-in route planner to draw the route point by point.
Ideas for runners
- First marathon or half — the full course with your finish time.
- Race season — a set of matching posters, one per race, in the same style.
- The home loop — the route you have run hundreds of times.
- A gift for a runner — ask for the GPX (or find the official course) and add their time.
💡 Tracks with elevation data also show an elevation profile with total ascent and descent — handy for trail races and hilly courses.
Print size and quality
Routes are drawn as vector lines, so they stay sharp at any size. Download free as PNG or vector PDF/SVG from A4 to A1, or order a print on art paper or canvas from the editor. A marathon course reads best at A2 or 50 × 70 cm; a 5–10 km loop works at A3.
Frequently asked questions
Which apps can I import a run from?
Any app that exports GPX — Strava, Garmin Connect, Coros, Suunto, Polar, Apple Health exporters, Komoot and others. GeoJSON and KML files work too.
Can I add my finish time and distance?
Yes. Put them in the title and subtitle of the map label; you choose the font, size and colour.
Is the route poster free?
Yes. Importing, styling and downloading are free with no account and no watermark. Printed copies are optional and paid at the print shop.
Can I put several runs on one map?
Yes. Import several GPX files and give each its own colour — for example every run of a training block, or a relay with one colour per leg.
